A family is an interconnected group. If one member of a family is experiencing problems, other family members may be impacted. Common family issues include substance abuse, adolescent acting out, depression or anxiety of one or more members of the family system, death of a family member, and inadequate parenting skills. Because the family is a relational group, it is important that the family therapist be trained in and have experience with family systems therapy.

The primary goal of family therapy is to help family members improve communication. Additional goals include solving family problems, understanding and handling special family situations, and creating a better functioning home environment. Addressing family issues in a safe and therapeutic environment helps the family increase effective communication and move forward with positive solutions to family problems.

No one is in control of your happiness but you; therefore, you have the power to change anything about yourself or your life that you want to change.
