About Us > Mark Burton, PhD

One of my core beliefs is that the most important thing we have in life is our relationships with others. I believe that relationships can be a source of great joy or great frustration, and if you have experienced discouragement in your relationships you may not have known what to do. My work with individuals, couples, and families is based on the premise that we all want to be accepted for who we are, and receive validation and empathy from those closest to us. It is not until we give each other validation and empathy that we can truly change.

Whether you are an individual, a couple, or part of a family, I work with you to help increase communication skills that will lead to increased ability to find long term solutions to relationship issues. In addition to communication skills, my work typically covers such areas as sexuality, finances, infidelity, and in-law difficulties.

I have been adjunct faculty at the University of Utah where I taught graduate students in counseling psychology about family and relationship counseling, and have appeared on television and radio as a relationship expert. I am a member of the Utah Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
